Grants to Indiana nonprofit organizations in eligible areas for capacity building to address community needs. Past grants have supported projects in the areas of health and human services, arts and culture, community development, youth, and education. Grant proposals must have direct relevance to Jay County charitable needs.

The Portland Foundation's mission is to enhance the quality of life for the people of Jay County, Indiana, now and for generations to come, by building community endowment, effecting significant impact through grantmaking and providing leadership on key community issues.

Areas the Foundation wants to support are: 

  • Start-up costs for new programs
  • One-time projects or needs
  • Capital needs beyond an applicant organization’s capabilities and means

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Portland Foundation encourages requests from any new or existing charitable organization or community agency in Jay County. Grant proposals must have direct relevance to Jay County charitable needs.

Generally, the Foundation does not support:

- Individuals, other than scholarships
- Religious or sectarian purposes
- Make-up of operating deficits, post-event, or after-the-fact situations
- Endowment campaigns
- Propaganda, political or otherwise, attempting to influence legislation or intervene in any political affairs or campaigns.

Timeline:
- Applications will be available May 1, 2020.
- Grants due no later than 5:00 pm on June 15, 2020
- For consideration in August 2020

Requests are reviewed and voted on twice a year. Deadline dates are typically in January and July and are announced in the local media.
