Request a Grant Writer

Grants to USA and Canada researchers and professors for innovative scientific research. The program seeks to encourage applicants to apply their expertise of technical and engineering fields to the research subject. Projects may involve areas such as virtual and augmented reality, energy infrastructure, and machine learning.

TMHNA is seeking proposals for research that drives new technology or innovative approaches to the material handling industry. The mission of the University Research Program is to encourage professors and researchers to apply their knowledge of engineering and technical fields, drawing synergies and collaboration between collegiate research and Toyota Material Handling North America.

Proposal themes related to the following areas are encouraged but given the broad nature material handling, other themes are welcome as well.

  • Material handling for last mile delivery
  • Material handling for urban environments
  • Material handling for piece picking
  • Material handling for reverse logistics
  • Material handling automation
  • Remote operation of material handling equipment
  • Warehousing Energy Infrastructure
  • VR/AR for material handling applications
  • Machine learning in material handling
  • ADAS systems for material handling equipment
  • Industry 4.0

Through the University Research Program, Toyota Material Handling North America (TMHNA) is seeking proposals that innovate and elevate the material handling industry. Many of the areas that the industry has been involved in include virtual reality/augmented reality, energy infrastructure, Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0, ADAS systems and machine learning. Proposal themes related to these areas are encouraged, but given the broad nature of material handling other themes are welcome.

Funding may include salaries, equipment and university overhead.

Aside from the funding for their projects, selected researchers will receive recognition for their work within their university, the material handling industry and for their published results.

The selected research proposals will be announced at a special event at the MODEX material handling tradeshow in March 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia. The principal investigators will be invited to attend the tradeshow and be present at the announcement at TMHNA’s expense.
