Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $5,000 to Indiana nonprofit arts organizations and public agencies in eligible counties for general operating support. First-time applicants must submit an LOI prior to submitting an application. Funding is intended to support ongoing artistic and administrative functions of organizations that provide quality arts and cultural activities to the public, with special attention to underserved communities in Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, St. Joseph, and Starke.

Eligible expenses include:

  • Salaries
  • Administrative fees
  • Artists' fees
  • Staff development and training
  • Space and equipment rental
  • Promotional costs
  • Personnel and production costs, and supplies needed to support the programming activities
  • Fee subsidies to presenting organizations that wish to purchase a grantee's services.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The grant award cannot be more than 20% of the applicant's three-year cash operating income average.

APS applicants may request up to $5,000 or up to $50% of allowable project expenses, whichever is less. Applicants may request no less than $500. This region's average grant in this category for FY2020 was $4,246.

Term of Contract:

The grant period is July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations or public entities with eligible arts programming and addresses in the following counties are eligible to apply for funding from the Region 2 Partner, the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County: Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, St. Joseph, and Starke.

General applicant requirements and restrictions:
- Be an organization whose primary purposes is arts producing, promoting, presenting service, or teaching organization
- Be a private, nonprofit tax-exempt agency with either 501(c)(3) status from the IRS or be an Indiana public entity (part of city or county).

Pre-proposal Conference:

Current grantees and new applicants are invited and encouraged to come learn about the grant categories, the online grant system, application process, and changes for this year. This workshop will be offered three times. Each session will cover the same material, so attendees need only register for one session.

Pre-Application Information:

Letters of Intent are required for new Arts Organization Support (AOS-I) Applicants. The deadline is January 15, 2020, 4:30 p.m. EST.

The full application is due March 5, 2020, 4:30 PM EST.

Draft reviews are available to first-time applicants and organizations that are currently not receiving funds from the IAC for general feedback and suggestions around completeness and clarity. Reviews will be done in the order requests are received and the deadline to request a draft review is February 21, 2020.
