Grants of up to $5,000 to Illinois and Indiana educators, community service, faith-based, and youth-serving organizations for programs to engage students and mitigate learning loss due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Eligible applicants are those that are located in the following counties: Clay, Parke, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo in Indiana and Clark in Illinois.
Through this grant opportunity, the Youth Success Impact Council is encouraging a focus on student engagement in real, virtual, or in-home classrooms across the Wabash Valley.
This grant opportunity may be used for individual or group tutoring projects to ensure students are ready for their next grade level come Fall 2021.
The UWWV YS is seeking proposals from community organizations, service groups, teachers, counselors, and other school-related groups to conduct projects or programs involving students and their families that will enhance student engagement in their current education forum (real, virtual or in-home) and should logically improve long-term student attendance rates. An expansion of this offering is to summer programs, especially those involving individual or group tutoring projects to help students catch up from lost learning during the unpredictable school year. (Summer tutoring programs will not be required to show family involvement.)
Projects may focus on any age group or grade level, they may take place at a school (with principal’s approval) or off-campus, and they may serve any number of students. Projects must include students who have a demonstrated record of high absenteeism or have become disengaged from their studies. This may also include students who are at risk of this behavior.
The long-term objective for UWWV YS is to increase youth success with strong school partnerships, assisting schools to reduce chronic absenteeism and strengthen key supports for student success. Through the Student Engagement Program, UWWV YS expects to advance the following outcomes:
